The Role

You'll join our accounting team as a Staff Accountant, managing daily financial operations and reporting. This position reports to the Controller and is central to keeping our agency running smoothly. You'll work with internal teams and external partners—carriers, brokers, and vendors—to ensure timely and accurate financial processes.

What You'll Do

  • Process daily deposits and manage company payments via online banking.
  • Enter vendor bills and process payments on schedule with carriers and brokers.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and broker billings monthly.
  • Prepare and post payroll twice monthly on the 15th and last day of the month.
  • Identify and prepare premium returns to clients and commission returns to carriers.
  • Generate end-of-month customer statements and financial reports for leadership.
  • File surplus lines taxes with the State of Ohio annually.
  • Prepare payroll tax filings and 1099-NEC forms.
  • Support accountants with documentation for annual tax filings.
  • Use Applied EPIC (agency management system) to complete accounting tasks daily.
  • Stay current on accounting practices specific to the insurance industry.

What You'll Need

  • 3-5 years of accounting or financial experience in insurance or a related industry.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Proficiency with agency management systems such as Applied EPIC, Applied TAM, or AMS 360 is preferred.
  • Active driver's license.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Prior experience with surplus lines tax filings.
  • Familiarity with payroll processing software.
  • Background in insurance agency operations or carrier relations.
