A leading London-area consulting services firm is looking for a Senior Digital Solutions Developer - Automotive & AI to join its London-based technology consulting team.
You will work at the intersection of software engineering, artificial intelligence, and the automotive industry, helping leading automotive organizations turn complex business and engineering challenges into practical, scalable digital solutions.
This is a hands-on consulting role. You will work directly with clients, consultants, business stakeholders, data scientists, architects, and engineering teams to understand problems, shape solution concepts, build prototypes, and drive solutions toward production.
You will have the opportunity to work across automotive use cases including vehicle engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, connected vehicles, aftersales, mobility, customer experience, and enterprise operations.
What You Will Do
Digital & AI Solution Development
- Design and develop digital solutions that address complex automotive business and engineering challenges.
- Build AI-enabled applications and intelligent workflows using modern software engineering and AI technologies.
- Develop prototypes, MVPs, and production-ready solutions, selecting the appropriate level of technical maturity for each client need.
- Integrate AI capabilities such as generative AI, machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, or intelligent automation into business applications.
- Develop APIs, services, applications, data pipelines, and user interfaces required to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Work with large and complex datasets and integrate solutions with enterprise and automotive data sources.
- Apply software engineering best practices to ensure solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and production-ready.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and assess their practical applicability to client problems.
Automotive Consulting
- Work with automotive clients to understand business processes, operational challenges, and technology landscapes.
- Translate automotive business and engineering requirements into technical solution concepts.
- Contribute to use-case identification and prioritization for AI and digital transformation initiatives.
- Support clients in assessing where AI and automation can generate measurable business value.
- Develop solutions relevant to areas such as:
* Vehicle engineering and development
* Manufacturing and production
* Supply chain and procurement
* Quality and warranty
* Connected vehicles and mobility
* Aftersales and service
* Customer experience
* Commercial and operational processes
- Develop an understanding of automotive-specific data, systems, processes, and technology ecosystems.
- Work with domain specialists and client stakeholders to validate that technical solutions address real-world automotive requirements.
Client Delivery & Consulting
- Lead or contribute to technical workstreams within consulting engagements.
- Participate in client workshops, discovery sessions, technical discussions, and solution-design activities.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into clearly defined technical requirements and delivery plans.
- Present technical concepts, prototypes, and recommendations to senior client stakeholders.
- Explain complex AI and technology concepts in a clear and commercially relevant way.
- Challenge requirements and assumptions constructively and propose alternative approaches where appropriate.
- Manage your own technical workstream and take responsibility for delivering agreed outcomes.
- Collaborate with consultants, architects, data scientists, UX specialists, and client technology teams.
- Contribute to proposals, solution concepts, estimates, and statements of work where relevant.
- Share knowledge and contribute to the development of reusable accelerators, frameworks, and intellectual property.
Technical Skills & Experience
Essential
- 5+ years of professional experience in software development, digital engineering, technology consulting, or a closely related field.
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, Java, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, testing, version control, APIs, architecture, and application lifecycle management.
- Experience developing end-to-end digital solutions rather than working exclusively on isolated development tasks.
- Practical experience applying AI/ML or generative AI technologies to real-world applications.
- Experience working with APIs, databases, data processing, and modern application architectures.
- Experience with cloud technologies, ideally Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with modern AI/GenAI technologies, such as LLM-based applications, RAG, embeddings/vector databases, AI agents, prompt engineering, or model integration.
- Experience working in Agile or iterative delivery environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with ambiguous requirements.
Desirable
- Experience in the automotive industry or another complex engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Experience with automotive data, connected vehicles, vehicle engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, or aftersales.
- Experience with Azure OpenAI, OpenAI APIs, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, or comparable AI platforms.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks or libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or equivalent.
- Experience with data platforms, data engineering, or analytics.
- Experience developing cloud-native applications using containers, serverless technologies, or infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience with enterprise integration, APIs, event-driven architectures, or microservices.
- Understanding of responsible AI, AI governance, data privacy, security, and model-risk considerations.
- Experience taking AI prototypes beyond experimentation and into reliable production environments.

Qualifications

- Willingness to travel occasionally depending on client and project requirements.
