About the Role

You will report directly to the VP of Operations and play a critical role in sourcing the materials, equipment, and parts that keep production running smoothly. As the Industrial Buyer, you'll be the key link between engineering, production, and vendor partners. You'll balance cost, quality, and delivery time to ensure customer commitments are met while protecting company margins. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact production efficiency, cost control, and vendor relationships.

What You'll Do Every Day

  • Buy raw materials, equipment, parts, and supplies based on engineering drawings.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Call vendors to get pricing, availability, and delivery dates.
  • Check that suppliers can deliver on time, in the right amount, and with good quality.
  • Decide whether to buy directly or request bids from multiple vendors.
  • Write purchase orders and bid requests.
  • Keep accurate records in the computer system of what is bought, costs, delivery dates, and quality.
  • Track inventory levels and material availability.
  • Talk to quality control and vendors when there are problems with products or services.
  • Work with the accounting department on invoices, payments, and new supplier paperwork.
  • Rush orders when needed to keep production on schedule.
  • Find new vendors that save money or improve quality.
  • Look for ways to cut costs on items already purchased.
  • Help the product development team forecast parts and estimate costs.
  • Follow established purchasing policies.
  • Handle other duties as assigned by senior management.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • 8-10 years of experience buying materials, supplies, or components in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Comfortable switching between tasks and changing priorities quickly.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Comfortable using computers, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web browsers.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with purchasing systems or ERP software.
  • Knowledge of metal forming, fabrication, or related manufacturing processes.
  • Experience negotiating supplier contracts.

Work Environment

This position is based in Cleveland, Ohio and is onsite. You will work standard business hours with occasional needs to handle urgent orders or supplier issues outside regular hours.
