Position Overview

The Software Release Coordinator supports a large-scale software release program, coordinating the day-to-day execution of release activities across a portfolio of enterprise software products. Working under the direction of the Release Manager, this role provides input into the operational cadence of releases and acts as a coordination hub between internal teams and global counterparts, helping the organization deliver software faster without compromising quality or control.

Key Responsibilities

Release Planning & Calendar Support

  • Maintain and publish the release calendar, ensuring dates, milestones, and dependencies are current and visible to all stakeholders.
  • Track and follow up on cross-team inputs required for release planning, including scope confirmation, dependency declarations, and environment availability.
  • Prepare and distribute release schedule communications, including upcoming releases, freeze windows, and deployment windows.

Release Readiness & Checklist Management

  • Own and maintain release readiness checklists, ensuring all required artefacts (requirements traceability, test evidence, security sign-off, approvals, release notes, documentation) are in place before a release proceeds.
  • Track entry and exit criteria for each release gate and escalate gaps to the Release Manager.
  • Ensure all change records and release tickets are correctly raised, linked, and approved in Azure DevOps prior to deployment.

Release Execution Coordination

  • Coordinate deployment sequencing across products, components, and environments under the direction of the Release Manager.
  • Liaise with DevOps and platform teams during release windows to ensure smooth handoffs and environment promotions.
  • Monitor deployment progress and communicate real-time status updates to the Release Manager and stakeholders during release execution.

Release Documentation & Communications

  • Maintain release documentation repositories, ensuring historical release records are accurate and searchable.
  • Prepare release health dashboards and status reports for the Release Manager to present to engineering leadership.
  • Document lessons learned from each release cycle and feed them into retrospective discussions.

Process Compliance, Quality Support & Metrics

  • Support adherence to the SDLC and Scaled Agile methodology by tracking artefact completion and flagging non-compliance to the Release Manager.
  • Assist the Release Manager in maintaining and improving release guardrails, templates, and process documentation.
  • Collect and maintain data for key release metrics as defined by the Release Manager, such as release predictability, defect escape rate, rollback frequency, cycle time, and deployment frequency.

Team Structure & Reporting

  • Reports to a manager based in Australia and works closely with a Release Manager located in Brisbane, Australia.
  • Collaborates with a Senior Manager based in the U.S.
  • Part of a small, two-person coordination team that works alongside a large body of cross-functional stakeholders.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • 3-5 years of experience required in a release coordination, release management, or SDLC support role within a software development environment.

Top Skills

  • Strong business acumen, with an understanding of how software development and release management support business goals and strategy.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, or a willingness to learn, to support program-level reporting and health radiators.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to track multiple concurrent release streams and produce clear release notes, status reports, and stakeholder communications.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and intent desired.

Soft Skills (Required)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to the changing needs of a large-scale, complex program.
