Summary

The Prosthodontist dental officer serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in within the scope of Prosthodontics specialty. The applicant must be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry, including but not limited to implants, restorative, fixed and removable prosthetics, periodontics, oral surgery-surgical extractions and pre-prosthetic surgery, endodontics both anterior and molar root canal therapy.

Duties

  • The applicant must be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry, including but not limited to implants, restorative, fixed and removable prosthetics, periodontics, oral surgery-surgical extractions and pre-prosthetic surgery, endodontics both anterior and molar root canal therapy. The Dentist- Prosthodontist shall be proficient in all aspects of Prosthodontics. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: Examines, diagnosis and develops treatment plans, and provides a full range of dental care. Responsible for providing the complete range of dental care listed above to patients. Provides timely, accurate and complete record documentation utilizing the computerized medical record system. Provides appropriate consults and referrals to medical and dental specialists. Maintains current certification in BLS and if required ACLS to provide emergency medical management. Must possess computer skills, have good work ethics and be a team player. Provides education and training to members of the medical and dental staff through various conferences, committees, and lecture series. Assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational, and administrative committees, task groups or special projects. Responsible for attending department, facility and education meetings that occur before and after clinic hours. Requires excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals. Complies with processes and procedures including infection control, OSHA guidelines, x-rays and oral health education, knowledge, and application of HIPPA/Security regulations, and in compliance with VHA policy. Responsible for overseeing the Dental Lab Operations and utilization of the Dental Lab SAC Contracts. Prosthodontist Core Privileges includes the full range of diagnostic and treatment functions normally performed by a General Dentist, to include Examinations, Interpretation of radiographs, Dental prophylaxis, Preventive dentistry, and Operative dentistry. The individual will be experienced and competent in all phases of Prosthodontics including but not limited to: The fabrication of fixed, complete, and removable dental prostheses Simple and complex dental rehabilitations Treatment of the severely worn dentition; treatment of orofacial trauma; treatment planning for preprosthetic surgery Restoration of osseo integrated dental implants Diagnostic procedures consistent with the practice of Prosthodontics Fabrication of oral appliances for treatment of OSA according to ADA and VA guidelines/recommendations, treatment of cosmetic and functional defects resulting from service trauma and other procedures consistent with the practice of Prosthodontics. Performs all types of prosthetic treatment to restore oral health and function. Treat the worn and debilitated dentition. Replaces missing teeth and supporting structures. Restore teeth and dental implants. Place dental implants, if trained. Simple RCT, Extractions, surgical and simple Pre-prosthetic surgery. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Requirements
