Duties

  • Medical Intensive Care Unit/Cardiac Care Unit (MICU/CCU) is an 18 bed intensive care unit specializing predominantly in cardiovascular, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, renal, endocrine and neurological disorders. Duties include but are not limited to: Providing direct care for acutely/critically ill patients who are at high risk for actual or potential life-threatening health problems. Providing high intensity care and vigilance utilizing assessment skills and blending data from a variety of invasive/noninvasive monitoring technology. Establishing a therapeutic relationship, allowing the patient to attain, maintain or regain optimal function through assessment and treatment. Engaging patients, families, and other caregivers to incorporate knowledge, values, and beliefs into care planning without judgement or discrimination. Participating in unit based educational activities and continuing education requirements. Demonstrating positive, effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers. Applying evidence-based practice/research to patient care. Participating in unit-based activities to improve and deliver cost effective patient care. Demonstrating knowledge of specific unit level performance improvement activities. Incorporating patient preferences into shared care delivery decisions. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Work Schedule: 6 shifts hours 7:30PM to 8:00AM and 1 shift hours 11:30PM to 8:00AM per pay period (two weeks). No set days, based on unit needs, weekends and holidays in rotation. Compressed/Flexible: Available. Telework: Not authorized. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959. Subject to background/security investigation. Must pass pre-employment physical examination. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
