Summary

The Medical Director for HBPC is the senior clinician and is responsible for the overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team. ***This position is eligible for a Recruitment/Relocation Incentives along with the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), and the Physician Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP). ***See benefits section below for more information. Duties

  • The Medical Director for the Home-Based Primary Care Program (HBPC) is a Physician with skills and experience in providing Primary Care to Veterans in their home and experience interest in Geriatrics and Palliative/Hospice care, who is responsible for the overall medical care delivered by the HBPC team. This position is approximately 40% administrative and 60% clinical. The clinical work will be divided between in-home care for Veterans enrolled in the HBPC program and support to the Long ­Term Care Unit coverage. This position will have an assigned panel of patients/Veterans from within the Tomah HBPC program. In addition to providing primary health care, the physician serves as a consultant to nursing, and medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members in providing quality care. The physician serves on medical center, VISN and/or national committees as appropriate, and assists in the development, evaluation, and communication of policies and standards to all healthcare disciplines. Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
