Summary
The Anesthesiologist maintains licensure and credentials sufficient to extend the authority to practice anesthesiology inclusive of all diagnostic and medical therapeutic modalities for the treatment of disease, conditions and injuries related to the field of anesthesia. Works under the immediate supervision of the Chief of Anesthesiologists and the Chief of Surgery within the Surgical Care Service Line at the Salem VA Medical Center. *NOTE: This is a Temporary Not to Exceed 1 year position.Duties

Intermittent pay will be pro-rated based on actual hours worked. Insurance: Intermittent employees may be eligible Federal health/long-term care (e.g., if expected to work 130 hours per month or more for at least 90 days). Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Duties include but are not limited to: 1. Provide comprehensive anesthesia services as well as follow-up care of existing conditions and management of emergency conditions. 2. Provide pre-operative and post-operative anesthesia services, including hospital rounds for surgical patients. 3. Provide supervision of CRNAs in the administration of anesthesia for surgical cases and be available and capable of providing any needed anesthesia consultation. 4. Document services through appropriate note, such as history and physical, anesthesia consultation notes. 5. Participate in Morbidity and Mortality conference providing information and documentation as needed. 6. Participate in and be available for on-call responsibilities and consultation as needed. 7. Educate residents and students in the principles and therapy of complex and basic anesthesia including lecture. 8. Participate in clinical research protocols either developed locally or in cooperation with other faculty or developed at other institutions for multi-center studies. 9. Perform the administrative duties involved in the proper functioning of the Surgical Care Service Line. These will include but are not limited to: a. Supervising CRNAs, CRNA students, residents and/or physician assistants b. Developing and reviewing policies for the Surgical Care Service Line c. Ensuring that JCAHO, Safety, AAMI, OSHA, VA and other agency regulations are being met. d. Ensuring continuing education of staff under his/her supervision. 10. Reusable Medical Equipment - (RME) is any medical equipment designed by the manufacturer to be reused for multiple patients. All personnel who are involved with the reprocessing of RME are responsible for knowing what reusable instruments, equipment, medical devices or supplies are used (inventory) in their clinical area. Work Schedule: Intermittent work schedule, Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, no on call coverage. Hours based on needs of the service, not to exceed 1820 hours per year.
