Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be July 27, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Clinical: 1. Evaluation and management of patients. The incumbent will be responsible for the evaluation of patients admitted to the acute inpatient psychiatry units as well as for patients in the Emergency Department and other Acute Care areas of the hospital when psychiatric consultation is requested. The incumbent will be responsible for the development and application of a treatment plan for patients admitted to the acute inpatient psychiatry units. For CL work (within Acute Care or ED settings), the incumbent will be responsible for delivering recommendations to the primary team for the management and treatment of mental health and behavioral conditions specific to the consultation request that is placed. The incumbent will be responsible for the evaluation and management of patients admitted to Foundations of Recovery Mental Health Rehabilitation Recovery Program (MHRRTP). The incumbent will also supervise trainees, including but not limited to medical students and residents, in all of these settings. The incumbent will practice safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods. The incumbent will provide on-call services and other duties as needed. B. Administrative: 1. The incumbent will follow VAPAHCS Policies and National Directives. 2. The incumbent will serve on at least one hospital committee by attending meetings regularly and contributing toward committee projects/plans as needed. 3. The incumbent will support and enhance the VAPAHCS mission, values, and goals. 4. If engaged in research, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring research outcome studies are conducted according to VAPAHCS policies and procedures. C. Other: 1. The incumbent will provide education of trainees and staff as required. 2. The incumbent may perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
