Staff Psychologist-Primary Care Mental Health Integration

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

• Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional The incoming provider is expected to contribute to the growth of Primary Care Mental Integration (PCMHI) services by providing brief assessments, same-day consultations with Veterans and staff, secondary/supplemental clinical supervision, and brief individual and group-based interventions for mental and behavioral health conditions typically seen within an integrated care setting. The incoming provider will be expected to attend and complete the VA national PCMHI competency training within one year of hire, if not previously certified. Major duties of this position will include, but are not limited to: Provides functional assessment, triage, brief intervention, education and consultative services regarding a wide range of mental health and behavioral medicine concerns, on referral from primary care providers and allied PACT members. Uses population-based practice management strategies and maintains competences in the following core domains. Conduct functional assessments, based on 30-minute appointments, and will triage/refer to specialty care services as appropriate. Demonstrates expertise in using contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for mental disorders and/or behavioral health conditions. Consults with PCPs and other PACT team members about plan of care for patients to ensure that care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the medical center Independently provides behavioral medicine interventions (including but not limited to stepped care level 2 tobacco cessation, alcohol misuse, weight management, and coping with chronic illness) Independently writes clear concise notes, generally 1⁄2-1 page long, with explicit impression, recommendations and plan for PCP use Provides clinical supervision and instruction for psychology trainees (interns and/or post doctoral fellows) assigned to the primary work setting.
