Summary
The Physician (Chief of Imaging Service) detail is for the Portland VA Medical Center. The detail is intended to last for 120 days. *If selected for this temporary detail, appointment may be extended or made permanent without further competition.Duties
- The Chief of the Imaging Service is accountable to the Deputy Director for Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Executive.The Imaging Chief has specific supervisory responsibility for the staff radiologists and non radiologist staff including clerical staff, technologists, nursing, technical personnel (PACS administrators), and administrative personnel. The incumbent is also expected to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing clinical competence through continued performance of direct patient care, formal study interpretation, engagement in trainee and staff education. Major duties also include but are not limited to: Ensure outstanding, cost-effective care is delivered in all areas of the service. Further the educational and research missions of VAPORHCS, in collaboration with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) and other academic affiliates. Oversee and administer the human and fiscal resources devoted to carrying out the clinical, training, and research missions. Collaborate effectively with other VAPORHCS clinical service leaders in the development and execution of the overarching VAPORHCS strategic and business plan, ensuring coordination of service, reduction of redundancies, and enhancement of cost effectiveness. Manage proactively and efficiently a broad continuum of programs including all associated personnel, equipment, supplies, space, contracts and information system resources. Maintain policies, procedures, and clinical practices that accord with contemporary, evidence-based practices in inpatient and emergency settings and with national standards as established by VHA, The Joint Commission, and other accrediting bodies. Ensure that all business operations and health information practices within the Imaging Service adhere to the laws, regulations and standards which govern those activities. Stay abreast of changing conditions in health care within and external to VA, and encourage demonstration projects, pilots and other experimental approaches aimed at improving clinical outcomes/satisfaction and/or increasing revenue. Assemble timely budget formulations, monitor the Imaging Service's fiscal activities, and manage fund control points conscientiously. Integrates customer service, including patient satisfaction and stakeholder support, into a management plan. Establishes a customer-oriented culture and promotes hiring of persons who fit that culture. Empowers staff to resolve problems and complaints independently at the lowest level. Participates as a member of the Medical Staff Council and Medical Practice Group Strategic Business Unit. Engage in tiered Safety Huddles and other High Reliability Organization (HRO) activities aimed at the cyclic flow of information to ensure sensitivity to operations and reduce opportunities for harm. Promote a climate of continuous learning, where self-development is valued. Participate in education of residents, fellows, and other trainees. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8-4:30pm Pacific Daylight Time.
