Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. VA Careers - Prosthetics: https://youtube.com/embed/3NUvF5jjErQ This position serves as a clinical staff member within the VISN 2 Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service Line. The service line operates as a fully integrated VISN-wide program. Although employees are assigned to a primary duty station at a VA medical facility, they are organizationally aligned under the VISN Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service Line rather than the individual facility. The Orthotist/Prosthetist provides comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic clinical services to Veterans by evaluating patient needs, developing individualized treatment plans, designing and fitting orthotic and prosthetic devices, and providing ongoing follow-up care to maximize mobility, function, comfort, and independence. The incumbent serves as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, collaborates with providers to develop treatment plans, and ensures delivery of safe, effective, evidence-based patient care while maintaining compliance with VA policies and professional standards. Duties include but are not limited to: Performs comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history review, physical assessment, gait analysis, range of motion, muscle strength, skin integrity, and functional abilities to determine orthotic and prosthetic needs. Develops individualized orthotic and prosthetic treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare providers. Designs, fabricates, assembles, modifies, fits, aligns, and delivers custom orthotic and prosthetic devices using appropriate materials, components, and technologies. Provides patient and caregiver education regarding device use, maintenance, wear schedules, safety precautions, and rehabilitation goals. Performs follow-up evaluations to assess fit, function, patient satisfaction, skin integrity, and changing clinical needs, making adjustments or modifications as appropriate. Documents patient evaluations, treatment plans, clinical interventions, device modifications, and follow-up care in accordance with VA documentation standards. Collaborates with physicians, therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. Ensures all orthotic and prosthetic devices meet applicable safety standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements prior to delivery. Maintains compliance with VA policies, accreditation standards, federal regulations, and professional ethical guidelines, including patient privacy and documentation requirements. Participates in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, and training activities to maintain professional competency and support advancements in orthotic and prosthetic care.
