Summary

About the Position: Incumbent performs phlebotomy duties for laboratory testing from Medical Treatment Facility inpatients and outpatients. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

  • Verifies proper patient preparation for tests requested by the provider, e.g., fasting, special diet, medications, etc., as well as appropriate sample collection procedure and sample transport requirements.
  • Collects blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, and emergency room patients using aseptic techniques.
  • Observes the patient for any signs or symptoms of physiological reactions after blood collection and takes appropriate emergency response measures to prevent injury and stabilize the patient.
  • Accurately labels the blood samples.
  • Prepares samples for transportation to off-site testing facilities, if necessary.
  • Alerts supervisor when serious reactions or emergency conditions exist.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
