Summary

This position works in support of the Aerospace Medical Certification Program reviewing airmen Electrocardiograms (ECGs) for technical and acute pathological problems.

Duties

  • Performs a combination of routine, multiple and varying tasks/assignments under the general direction of a manager, project/program manager, or more experienced employee for the national FAA Aerospace Medical Certification Program to review airmen Electrocardiograms (ECGs) for technical and acute pathological problems. Typically acts as a member of a team to assist other employees in day-to-day operations. Applies experience and detailed knowledge to accomplish routine tasks/assignments. Has a general understanding of how assignments contribute to organizational unit activities. Typical tasks include: reading and interpreting ECGs to screen out discrepancies; verifying discrepancy according to Aerospace Medical Certification regulations, procedures, and aerospace medicine principles; notifying the appropriate personnel of the discrepancy; compiling and summarizing data and/or information consisting of ECG pathology codes and maintaining records in the FAA Document Imaging Workflow System (DIWS); and supporting higher level employees in research, examinations, investigations or inspections by requesting further cardiovascular evaluations and/or medical tests. Demonstrates some independence in planning time, but frequently coordinates with a manager, project/program manager, or more experienced employee to prioritize tasks/assignments and use assigned resources. May help managers and other employees identify resources to accomplish tasks/assignments and small projects. Contacts are both internal and external to the organization. Internal contacts across the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute, including Legal Instruments Examiners, Physicians, coworkers and managers to share information and status on tasks/assignments. Prepares official correspondence to AME's and Airmen requesting additional information, which may include: requests for medical records, additional studies, eligibility letter, or other requests for additional information. Established policies/procedures provide guidance for almost all tasks/assignments but allow some discretion for employee to select the most appropriate approach(es). Works under general instructions provided by a manager, project/program manager, or more experienced employee. Frequently refers problems and work issues to a manager or more experienced employee when guidelines are not available or applicable. May help them develop and recommend solutions to some problems/issues. Work is reviewed frequently during major stages of tasks/assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and alignment with the requirements of projects and/or work activities. Work activities typically support one or more projects/programs and affect the objectives of the organizational unit and the major subdivision. In some areas, the work may indirectly support the safety and security of internal and external customers.
