Registered Nurse (Operating Room) - EDRP

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Duties

• As the Perioperative Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) you are accountable for patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care for the patient undergoing a surgical/ invasive procedure and be required to be on-call during off tours hours to provide patient care for emergency procedures.100% patient care position for highly skilled, specialized RNs in a busy 12 suite Operating room.Duties include but are not limited to: Planning, directing and coordinating the care of every patient undergoing operative and other invasive procedures Functioning proficiently in both the circulator and scrub role within the OR Maintain knowledge of current Association of peri-Operative Registered Nurses (AORN) Standards, VHA Directives, and service level standard operating procedures Assuring the sterility of the surgical field is maintained and all instrumentation and equipment in play is used in a safe and efficient manner Protecting the patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, mechanical, and thermal sources, and extraneous objects Performing counting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items Participating in the Time Out process to ensure correct site, side, and level, and follow implant and tissue/tissue-based product documentation, policy, and procedures Managing patient's specimens in the appropriate manner Administering medications safely and correctly Performing interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels, and perform interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection Ensuring comprehensive documentation of all care provided during the perioperative experience in the electronic health record. Requirements

Physical Requirements: The position requires light to moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds), pulling hand over hand (8-12 hours), pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (8-12 hours), standing (8-12 hours), kneeling, repeated bending (8-12 hours), climbing (legs only), climbing (use of legs and arms), both legs required, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, ability to distinguish basic colors, and hearing (aid permitted).

Education

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
